About this title

Edwards, a photographer, writer, and world traveler, has carefully and skillfully assembled personal stories from the Viet Nam war era, creating a moving and many-faceted presentation in narrative, quotations (she uses her subjects' words extensively), and photos. Her introductory photo/text essay looks at the larger context of the war and discloses how her personal involvement in the country developed and how her visit to Viet Nam in 1992, the first of several, was the genesis of this book. Selecting from her work over the years, she presents 70 text/photo portraits of soldiers, nurses, MIAs and POWs, refugees, Amerasian children, highlanders, religious leaders and followers, and families. She also includes stories of American civilians, including journalists, a policeman, the Chicago Seven, and a few who avoided the draft by various means. A resource guide to support groups and services completes the presentation. 10x10<"> Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (
