It was inaugurated as supreme head of the rebellious side October 1, 1936 , serving as head of state of Spain from the end of the conflict until his death in 1975 , and as head of government between 1938 and 1973. He was leader of the single party Spanish Falange traditionalist and JONS , which relied to establish a fascist regime in its infancy , which later would lead to a dictatorship , known as Franco , conservative , Catholic and anti- type . This change was due to the defeat of fascism in World War II . It coalesced around the cult of personality different trends of conservatism, nationalism and opposition to the political left and the development of democratic forms of government Catholicism.
