Tor Seidler, who grew up in Burlington, Vermont, and Seattle, Washington, is the author of four other books for young readers: The Dulcimer Boy, Terpin, The Tar Pit,and A Rat's Tale. He lives in New York City.

A Rat's Talewas the first book illustrated by Fred Marcellino. His first picture book, Puss in Boots,is a 1991 Caldecott Honor Book. His second, The Steadfast Tin Soldier,is a 1992 ALA Booklist Children's Editors' Choice. He lives in New York City.
