About this title

Having left her drunken husband, wrecked her 1957 Chevy, and spent time in an alcoholic-rehab center, wise-cracking, world-weary Lottie Jay embarks on a shining new career as a country-and-western songwriter

From Library Journal:

This first novel is a gritty, black-humored account of a woman's progress from hard-drinking farmwife to promising country-western songwriter. Lottie Jay is 29, married to a drunken farmer. When Judd ridicules her song lyrics, she leaves him and their barren farmhouse, gets drunk, crashes her '57 Chevy, and wakes up in an alcoholic rehabilitation center. As one of her many attempts to find new ways to live a sober life, she registers for an adult-education class in song writing. The instructor proves to be a frustrated Elvis Presley impersonator, and an unsatisfactory lover, but he does send one of her songs to a new record company in Nashville, and Lottie finds a new love in muscular Georgie, a recovered alcoholic who rides a motorcycle and loves to bake cakes. For contemporary fiction collections. Margaret Allen, formerly with Bennington Free Lib., Vt.
