About this Item

The catalogue issued in conjunction with The Metropolitan Museum's exhibition of the same title in 2012. It explores Warhol's influence across several generations of artists who have responded to his art in a variety of ways. The book is organized around five themes in Warhol's work: Popular culture and tabloid news; portraiture and the cult of celebrity; sexual identity and gender issues; artistic practices and issues; and the role of collaboration in Warhol's filmmaking, publishing and environmental creations. Each theme is delineated through examples of Warhol's work in various media reflected in the work of some 60 other artists including Baldessari, Gober, Koons, Richter and Sherman. There is an major essay by Mark Rosenthal, original interviews with artists whose work is included in the book, such as Celmins, Close, Haacke, Katz, Schnabel, Trecartin and Tuymans, as well as a visual archive and extensive illlustrated chronology and an index. 9 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches, 304 pages in pictorial boards with 308 full color illustrations. Boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square, not remaindered. The clear plastic dustjacket with blue lettering shows no imperfections or damage of any kind. A volume that seems destined to occupy a major place in the Warhol literature. [Sorry, we cannot accept orders on this book from outside the U.S.]. Bookseller Inventory # 005074
