First edition, first issue (one of an estimated 8400 copies without a first edition statement). INSCRIBED, "To Walter King Stone / 1932." Above his inscription, Frost has transcribed the poem "A Cloud Shadow," which did not make it's first book appearance in print until "A Witness Tree" in 1942. For the book publication, Frost changed the phrase herein, "a poem she thought there was on Spring," to "a poem there used to be on Spring." (We like the original version better.) Stone--a painter, and book and magazine illustrator of the period--sent Frost five paintings. In exchange, Frost inscribed five books with a poem. Copy of Frost's letter transmitting the five books is included, stating, in part, "I've got these pictures up---and I don't see how you are going to get them back except by process of law or by appeal to something in me that may not exist." The book has minor wear on the corners, otherwise very good, lacking dust jacket. Stone's attractive bookplate on front pastedown and obituary notice for Frost pasted to rear pastedown.
