About this Item

Inscribed on the half-title by the author: "Yours for Liberty, Abigail Scott Duniway." This novel is a complete rewriting of the author's rare first book- the first novel and the first novel by a woman printed in the Oregon Country and the American West- CAPTAIN GRAY'S COMPANY (1859) is a fictionalized version of Duniway's journal entries kept during her crossing in 1852. Binding a little dust soilied, spine a bit faded, trifling wear to extremities. Erasure on front endpaper, two contemporary names in pencil on second blank endpaper which also has a small tear. All in all, a very good, sound copy of this late book by "the most important leader of the Western woman's movement." Size: 8vo. Bookseller Inventory # 010464
