Wild Treasures: Reflections on Natural World Heritage Sites in Asia is a selection of 45 carefully curated articles and artwork, channelling voices past and present to take the reader on a journey across Asia’s most beautiful wildernesses identified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The anthology has pieces by writers, poets, ecologists, scientists, artists and conservationists — all bound together by their shared love of nature.

The list of sites includes Nanda Devi, Valley of Flowers, Kaziranga, Sundarbans, the Great Himalayan National Park, Bharatpur and the Western Ghats in India, authored by Stephen Alter, Ranjit Lal, Bittu Sahgal, Ullas Karanth as well as stalwarts at the frontline of protection such as Sandeep Tambe, Samir Sinha among others. The collection includes old greats like M. Krishnan, Salim Ali, Francis Younghusband and Peter Jackson. There is a work of fiction penned by Amitav Ghosh and writing lyrical prose on the same landscape of the Sundarbans is UK-based poet Ruth Padel. Science writer Richard Stone reports from the hottest place on planet earth - Lut Desert in Iran, while researcher Som B. Ale writes about his quest to find the snow leopard in the Sagarmatha (Mount Everest) National Park, and the Queen of Bhutan, Ashi Dori Wangmo Wangchuck's reminiscence of her childhood in the wondrous forests of Royal Manas National Park. George Schaller documents the first ever study on the iconic giant panda, while Alan Rabinowitz’s reportage is from the 'Valley of Death' - and the world’s largest tiger reserve - Hukawng Valley in Myanmar.

Put together with an aim to kindle curiosity, encourage responsible travel, and garner support for these imperilled natural wonders, the book hopes to build a network of champions of our collective natural heritage.
