About this Item

First edition, first printing, Hardcover, with the Scribner's "A" and the Scribner's Seal on the copyright page. 8vo, publisher’s original smooth black cloth with gold paper labels printed in black on the spine and upper cover. 224 pp. A very nice and handsome copy, the text with just a bit of the common mellowing, the black cloth (which shows everything) still nice and dark and unfaded but with some very minor evidence of age and use FIRST EDITION of Hemingway's third and final collection of stories. Fourteen stories by Hemingway including; ‘The Sea Change’, ‘A Clean, Well Lighted Place’ and ‘The Light of the World". In this collection Hemingway continues his speaking for the "lost Generation" through his intelligent, tough and often unusual characters. Of 'A Clean, Well Lighted Place' James Joyce is quoted as saying, "He [Hemingway] has reduced the veil between literature and life, which is what every writer strives to do. Have you read 'A Clean Well-Lighted Place'?.It is masterly. Indeed, it is one of the best short stories ever written." 'Fathers and Sons', also included in this collection, is another example of the classic "Hemingway Style". Bookseller Inventory # 26834
