About this Item

Full-Leather. Very Good. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. -- This is a bound volume of 80 pages dated 1870 -- A beautiful binding with embossed boards and spine with gold decoration and lettering -- boards and contents are tight, very nice condition with slight scuffing on the edges, pages are gilt all around -- The author makes this statement "Delivered in Several of The Churches of New York and Brooklyn", "Sold For The Benefit of The Midnight Mission" -- This book concerns a non-profit House of Refuge for young girl Prostitutes. The book was written as a plea to certain wealthy benefactors to continue and start financial donations to the home in order to keep it going and enlarge it. The home's capacity at this writing is 24 girls and is 3 years old having been founded in 1867. Incidents in the volume include Midnight Mission Representatives taking young girls bodily away from Madams in Whorehouses -- This is a RARE issue with probably no more than 200 copies printed of this first edition -- An excellent opportunity for the collector and researcher.
