4to. (29 cm.) vi, 88p. Profusely (!) illustrated with 16 black and white Figures, which are photos, and 44 black and white Plates, which are the drawings necessary to complete the woodcraft projects. Selected Bibliography. Pictorial endpapers showing children at work on various craft projects. Green cloth with black letters on the front cover and the spine and with a vignette in black on the front cover of a wood chisel and a wood shaving. Just touches of wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, previous owner's bookplate on front pastedown [E. Lorene Young], all plates in fine condition, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket slightly tattered along the top edge, else very good to near fine. William H. Johnson, Ph.D., was Superintendent, Chicago Public Schools and Louis V. Newkirk, Ph.D. was Director, Bureau Industrial Arts Education, Chicago Public Schools. Forty-four separate projects are described and illustrated, including toys, games, puzzles, household objects, birdhouses and other garden pieces, and exercises in wood carving and wood sculpture. This book is in The Hobbycraft Series developed by Johnson and Newkirk in response to the need for carefully planned, practical instruction in the handicrafts.
