First edition. "Seven queens : seven romances" -- historical fiction based on the lives of Maud of Flanders (William the Conqueror); Maud/Matilda (Henry I); Adelais (Henry I); Philippa of Hainault (Edward III; Isabel of Valois ("the child wife of Richard II, married before she was eight, widowed at twelve"); Elizabeth Woodville (Edward IV); and Anne of Cleves (Henry VIII). Elizabeth Louisa "Lily" Moresby (1862 - 1931) was a British-born novelist who became the first prolific, female fantasy writer in Canada. As the daughter and then wife of Royal Navy Captains, she lived and traveled widely in Egypt, India, China, Tibet and Japan before settling in Canada in 1919. It wasn't until she was 60 years old that she started writing novels but in the 11 years before her death, she published 35, under Barrington, Lily Adams Beck, Elizabeth Louisa Beck, Eliza Louisa Moresby Beck, and Lily Moresby Adams. She has been noted as a major writer of Theosophy; her fictionalized biography of Byron (as "E. Barrington") was a bestseller during the 1920s; and the 1929 film "The Divine Lady" was based on her 1924 novel (also published under the E. Barrington pseudonym). Purple cloth with gilt lettering and rule on spine. Touch of minor shelf wear, still fine in about very good dust jacket with a few chips to the lower edge, with the largest being a half-inch and one at base of spine just barely touching a few letters in publisher's name. A scarce book, scarcer still in the dust jacket. Bookseller Inventory #
