Each volume varies between 300-350 pages divided into 17 volumes (originally 14 were planned) to make up the complete works. 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 in. Blue calf half binding with marbled boards, gilt lettering on leather labels on spine, 5 raised bands, compartments with gilt decoration, top edges of text blocks gilt, end papers marbled, each volume with engraved frontis. Condition of each volume is GOOD: wear and soiling to covers and spine overall, spines darkened, some leather labels missing or cracked- esp. vol. 1 +8, spines a bit dry, corners a bit worn esp. vol. 10, almost all the volumes with water stains to spine edge on covers, water stains to most volumes on frontis- title page- and first few pages. In a few volumes staining is very light or not present at all, otherwise all pages clean, edges of text blocks lightly tanned, bindings sound, all volumes with leather bookplate of James Simpson with tanning from leather on ffep.Vol. 3- top spine ends a bit cracked, Vol. 9 - heavier water damage, whole volume warped, front cover almost detached, Vol. 10 with small ding on rear cover.
