Book Description Boston Youth's Companion by Perry Mason & Company May 4, 1893, 1893. First and only edition, a magazine commemorative to the Chicago World's Fair. SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON'S COPY, Signed by him and with his bookplate affixed to the front pastedown. Illustrated throughout, including impressive full colour pictorial illustrations and decorations to the wrappers and full page black and white engravings. Folio, in the original colour decorated wrappers preserved in a binding of blue and white textured cloth over stiff boards. 36pp. A well preserved and bright copy, the edges with a little expected wear and with some small tears at some time repaired with cello tape, some very minor staining but in all quite nice for ephemera of this type. SAMUEL ELIOT MORISON'S COPY of this magazine style extra on the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The fair was known as The World's Columbian Exposition and was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World. The centerpiece of the Fair, the large water pool, represented the long voyage Columbus took to the New World. Morison was one of the world's foremost authorities on Christopher Columbus and is the author of ADMIRAL OF THE OCEAN SEA, thus his interest in the Columbian Exhibition. The copy then is a pleasing item with fine provenance. The paper also has articles on Chicago and the conception of the fair, as well as a presentation of many of the exhibits. These include the Arboreal Palace, "Painting Machines", an Eskimo village, statues, an "Electrical Wonderland" and other novelties. All are presented with beautiful illustrations.
