About this title

From Library Journal:

Produced by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in conjunction with a pioneering exhibition, Wrapped in Glory shows that quilt makers in the 18th and 19th centuries recorded history, events, and everyday life in their quilts. This book concentrates on 36 rare figurative quilts and how they record American history as well as European influences. Fox, curator of the exhibition, describes in depth the patterns, materials, and techniques used, as well as how the times affected and were reflected in these quilts. A Treasury of Amish Quilts is also a history lesson in quilting that shows how the way of life of the Amish influenced their quilt making. The Pellmans feature specific patterns and variations thereof, pointing out distinctive features, unusual practices, and the effect of time and place on the selection of material. A chart showing distinctive features of Amish quilts, comparing the color, fabric, and quilting techniques of various communities, is included. Both books are enjoyable histories of specific areas of quilt making. Recommended for larger collections.
