Title: In the Wake of the News.
Publisher: The Chicago Tribune, [Chicago]
Publication Date: 1938
Edition: 1st Edition
8vo. Stiff maroon and yellow wrappers. 64pp. Very good. Mildest bit of slight edgewear, else a tight, clean and attractive first edition of the first volume of this annual compilation by Ward (1896-1955), the influential long-time "Chicago Tribune" sports editor and chum of "Colonel" Robert R. McCormick. He describes it in an introduction as a "collection of notes, verse, wit, and humor. the best of the many thousands received by the editor in the last year." Much but no means all of the humor is sports related. Surprisingly scarce -- issues from the mid-1940s are common, but any from the 1930s are seldom seen. Bookseller Inventory # 28763
