About this Item

Illustrated with twelve original aquatints by William Sharp, with an introduction by George N. Schuster. Printed at the Marchbanks Press, New York, 1957. Large stout octavo, bound in black and tan linen (lacks slip- case). 556 pages, illustrated with numerous line drawings and with twelve original aquatints hand-pulled on Arches paper. Text set in linotype Janson, and printed letterpress on fine rag paper. Designed by Peter Oldenburg. Limited to 1,500 copies, signed by William Sharp. A very good to fine copy of this beautifully illustrated edition. A powerful novel in which the devastating and cruel extinction of the Warsaw ghetto by the Nazis forms the backdrop for an extraordinary story of human tenacity, courage, and compassion. A great novel of the human spirit. Bookseller Inventory # 4189
