xiii,181 p. Includes illustrations. Bookbinder, is a Member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council and its Committee on Conscience. Following retirement from the American Jewish Committee, which he served as Washington Representative from 1967 to 1988 and as Special Representative from 1986 to 1988, Hyman Bookbinder now serves as Public Affairs Counsellor and Board Director of public interest organizations, in addition to writing and lecturing on public policy issues. As Washington Representative Emeritus, Mr. Bookbinder continues to advise the American Jewish Committee. During his service with the Committee, Mr. Bookbinder was responsible for liaison between the Committee and the White House, the Congress, the Federal agencies, and other national non-governmental agencies. He gave testimony on many occasions to Congressional committees on a variety of issues of concern to the Jewish community. He edited the AJC s Washington Letter and was moderator of its radio program, Washington Scene. In 1978 President Jimmy Carter appointed Mr. Bookbinder a member of the President s Commission on the Holocaust to make recommendations for an American memorial. He then served for six years as a member of the Congressionally authorized U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. Born in New York City in 1916 of Polish immigrant parents, Mr. Bookbinder attended City College of New York, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Social Science. He did graduate studies in economics, sociology and political science at New York University and the New School for Social Research. Good. No dust jacket as issued. Signed by author.
