About this Item

Signed by Author. Limited, Numbered Edition. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Special Commemorative Edition of three hundred copies, published June, 1975 on the occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of The Leash, signed by the author, this copy numbered 7. Faux wood grain paper over boards, gilt lettering on spine, raised decoration on front cover (a metal keyhole, dog and a large T on which is engraved "The Leash"), [2], 21 pages, [2], seven lithographs (birds, dogs, fish) pencil signed by artist James A. Houston. There is a faint musty odor, otherwise near fine. "The Leash was founded in June, 1925, by a group of sportsmen and dog fanciers who were close friends and wanted small place to foregather, play cards and backgammon and enjoy such pleasures as Prohibition had made publicly illegal. An attractive maisonette was leased for a clubhouse at 143 East 52nd Street. The Leash remained on 52nd St. until the autumn of 1948 when the present Club House was purchased. Stuart Hoagland, Chairman of the House Committee at the present (1975), prevailed upon me to make a tour of the Club House to try to identify some of the fine articles we possess. We spent a day with a tape recorder. This rough transcript, I hope, will give readers some idea of the pleasant place The Leash is." Illustrator: Houston, James A. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Fishing & Hunting; Groups, Clubs & Associations. Signed by Author. Inventory No: 008942. Bookseller Inventory # 008942
