Central Michigan University Press, MI. Excellent first hand account and regimental like history by a member of the unit. The 8th Michigan Infantry Regiment, one of Fox s Fighting 300 Regiments, began the war in South Carolina, then fought at 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, then shipped west to Vicksburg and back to the eat for the Overland Campaign and Petersburg. The book is a day by day account of the war through Ely s eyes. Ely rose to the rank of Brigadier General after being a captain, major and Colonel in the regiment. Good copy of the soft bound first edition. The binding is cracked although all the pages are bound in place. There is sun fading on the spine. 73 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 22338
