About this Item

64 p. Trade paperback with the author's artwork simply presented. Text is all lower case, without punctuation, from the cat's viewpoint. Classic moral tale: When summer turned to fall and vacationing families had themselves turned to distant routines, the author took note of a lingering cat in the yard. She called her Betty and watched as the season cooled, and Betty stayed, interested in playing with the little girl who lived there. She would find a home inside, and this is her story, told in free verse with human help. She had searched for a home when had been abandoned perhaps by thoughtless summer folk, and in her end note, facilitating author Rosalind Welcher expressed the hope that vacationers might read Betty's story. Very good. Slightest edge wear. Minor surface scuffing. Clean interior. Presumed 1st. No print line. Short print run. Bookseller Inventory # Alibris.Vet0350007825

About this title

The true and touching story of Betty, a small white cat with one blue eye and one green eye, who was abandoned at summers end by thoughtless vacationers when they returned to the city.

Her struggle to survive and her final success in finding a new and loving home make a suspenseful and heart wrenching story which is enhanced by sensitive illustrations by the author.

The story has a bittersweet ending, because despite the loving attention that Betty now enjoys, there is no way of telling her that she will never be abandoned again.

We know the story to be true because it was the author, Rosalind Welcher herself who rescued Betty and gave her her present home.

From the Author:

Yes, there really is a Betty. She makes her home with my husband and me. I was moved to write her story because it epitomizes what happens to so many cats at the end of summer when the vacationers leave their lakeside cottages and discard their temporary pets. The trouble is the pets don't realize they are only temporary.

Store Description

Hi, Folks ... Mom said, 'I need to downsize'. Moving to assisted living, what she couldn't take included 8,000-plus books & records. A decade later, my upcountry barn is bursting. Books multiply as others recycle priorities. I now have 30,000 or more books (not yet all online) looking for good homes, and my learning curve has been a roller coaster. I celebrate word-crafters, thought-tumblers, laughter ... the arts of communication at every turn. I preserve, protect, and share. I am also Hedgehog Publishing, 'Words & Pictures by & for Folks with Prickly Backs, Soft Bellies, & Small Brains'.
