Presumed second printing (biographical sketch by Burr present). Dark brown cloth with minor ornamentation and ruling in blind. 538 pp. A piece of historical fiction following George Washington through the American Revolution, as well as devoting time to Benedict Arnold. George Lippard was a 19th century American author, known for his Gothic tales and historical fiction. Lippard advocated a form of socialism, and spoke for the rights of the working class, as well as forming a secret society (see Wikipedia). FAIR condition. Cloth LACKING along the backstrip, laid in at the front, in two pieces. Front cover very tenuously attached to the binding. General fading and scuffing, with a small spot of cloth chipped from the rear cover. Minor soiling. A few small areas of staining and discoloration to the covers. Extremities rather scuffed, bumped and worn. Text block solid, with minor scattered soiling and foxing throughout. Heavy foxing to the endpapers.
