About Shell Education
Rachelle Cracchiolo started the company with a friend and fellow teacher. Both were eager to share their ideas and passion for education with other classroom leaders. What began as a hobby, selling lesson plans to local stores, became a part-time job after a full day of teaching, and eventually blossomed into Teacher Created Materials. The story continued in 2004 with the launch of Shell Education and the introduction of professional resources and classroom application books designed to support Teacher Created Materials curriculum resources. Today, Teacher Created Materials and Shell Education are two of the most recognized names in educational publishing around the world.
Review: This series aims to introduce math concepts in the practical context of professional or everyday activities. Hurricane Hunters focuses on analyzing data to find means, modes, medians, extreme values, range of data, and more. Pack It Up delivers a first-person account of a family s move from a child s point of view connected to the concepts of volume and surface area. A Sense of Art applies calculations of area and perimeter to fields such as architecture, interior design, and fashion design. Photographs and descriptions of structures ranging from the Taj Mahal to the Pyramids at Giza to modern office buildings bring the ideas to life. Tonight s Concert, told from the first-person point of view of a concert manager, focuses on both creating and interpreting graphs based on data. Each book includes math problems, including a two-page problem-solving activity at the end of the book, and brief answers in the back matter. The books overall direction is worthwhile --Booklist, May 2012
