Lithograph frontispiece and five lithograph plates all present. Mrs. Kinzie and her husband were among Chicago's earliest settlers. The two of them went on a trip from Winnebago to Chicago, and remained there for two months. Here, she gives an account of that trip, and also detailed information of life in Chicago and in the Indian country of northern Illinois. She also writes about the Chicago massacre of 1812 and the Black Hawk War. 8vo. Frontis., xii, 13-498; 5 plts. Sabin 37941. Full library cloth. Ends of spine pulled; paper call number label present there. Ex-library; Mercantile Library of Philadelphia bookplate, circulation pocket and card, and numerous rubber stamps inside.
