About this Item

Signed Limited First Edition, the so-called "Thistle Edition" in Slipcase. One of 525 copies, signed by the author and illustrator on the limitation page. This is the second book by Munro Leaf, following the critically acclaimed The Story of Ferdinand. With full-page illustrations by Robert Lawson. Bound in full burlap boards, with dark green paper cover & spine labels. Slipcase has a green thistle imprint on front and back covers, with some wear and slight splitting along seams at top and bottom edge, one and a half inch section of top edge is stripped off, but case is otherwise fully intact. Binding is square and solid. Un-paginated. A Caldecott Honor book. Signed by Lawson and Leaf at the limitation statement. Lovely story and edition from the team that produced "The Story of Ferdinand" two years before. In yellow cloth backed tartan-patterned cover boards, worn, as expected, especially at the corners. Dust jacket is clean with some small tears and some loss at corners and at head and tail of spine panel, price intact on flap (crossed out in ink with 15 cents penned in), in glassine sleeve. Interior is clean and unmarked, with bookplate of former owner glued to half title page. Un-paginated. Binding is square and solid. A Caldecott Honor Book. "Wee Gillis's father's relations were all Highlanders, stalking stags, while his mother's relations were all Lowlanders, raising long-haired cows, and he had to make up is mind which he would be.".
