About this Item

First edition of this novelization of the 1945 MGM movie starring Ginger Rogers, Walter Pidgeon, Lana Turner and Van Johnson. Photographic endpapers of the cast, 208 pp. Illustrated with photo portraits of the stars of the film. Generally fine, tight example, small ownership signature top of the half title page. In the original pictorial dust jacket, price clipped, spine well sunned and with chips to the spine extremities extending somewhat along the top edge of the front panel, some rubbing to the folds. A remarkably uncommon book, a novelization of teh wartime movie of a weekend at New York's famous Waldorf Astoria hotel shared by ".a glamor puss screen actress (Rogers).an ace war correspondent (Pidgeon)" , a wounded pilot (Johnson) and a marriage-minded hotel employee (Turner). The producer sent the publishers a copy of the Samuel and Bella Spewack screenplay (which was based on Vicki Baum's "Grand Hotel") while the film was still in production; Grosset in turn hired Charles Lee to novelize it.
