About this Item

Oblong string bound in gilt stamped stiff wrappers. Aprox. 8" x 5". 22 pp. Front cover reads "West Side High School/ January 1934" in gold. First bpage is a tipped on photograph of the school. The remaining pages each contain 8 individual "passport" sized photo portraits of the students with the ink signature of each underneath (a few with additional small notations-- "Lotsa Luck", Best wishes" and the like). One of the pages has a blank slot, the final page of photos ends after the third portrait and the final page has "Autographs". The most prominent student we can identify is Hugo (Hugh) Addonizio, who would go on to serve 13 years in Congress and as mayor of Newark from 1962-1970 (and go on further to serve a prison term for corruption). Some edge staining to some of the pages and some staining to the school photo, wear about the edges of the covers. An interesting Depression-era variation on the typical large, printed yearbooks.
