First edition. Hradcover in blindstamped blue cloth with spine lettered in gilt. viii+ 359 pp. Frontispiece engraved portrait of the author. Tight, very good example, narrow loss at the head of the spine and modest wear foot of spine and tips, cloth a bit rubbed. Foxing to the portrait and scattered light foxing to the text. 1856 presentation inscription front free endpaper. Connecticut-born Lydia Huntley Sigourney (d. 1865) was apopulat mid-19th century poet; she began her writing career writing elegies for deceased friends and neighbors.
