Book Description Western Livestock Journal, Los Angeles, California, 1935. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Field, Katherine (illustrator). 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First edition in wraps. Bruce Harvey Kiskaddon (1878-1950) was a real cowboy who lived the cowboy life. Born in Pennsylvania, he worked for 10 years as a cowboy in Colorado, joined the army and served in the cavalry during WWI, after which he spent some time working the ranches in Australia. Upon returning to the States he again worked as a cowboy, until he traveled to Hollywood in 1926 to work in films, auditioning for a part in Ben Hur. He stayed in Hollywood and worked on his poetry and other writings while supporting himself in various jobs. Today he is considered to the "cowboy poet laureate of America" for "his authenticity and skill at invoking life in the west as it once was" (quotes and info from Wikipedia). "He wrote of the authentic cowboy experience in a style and tone that was uniquely unromantic. His was a world of unflinching realism that held an artistic strength that still sets it apart making his work relevant for modern readers." (Ranch and Reata Magazine). This book is illustrated by Katherine Field (1899-1951), self-taught on her family's farm in New Mexico. ***DESCRIPTION: Light tan cardboard wraps with two embossed rules, one bordering the page and the second bordering the paper label with a decorative border and lettering in brown, small black and white illustrations at the head of most of the poems. ***CONDITION: Very good with a solid binding, minimal wear to head and tail of the spine, entirely free of prior owner markings. Externally there is some soiling to the wraps, part of the paper label has been torn away (see picture). Internally there is a rust mark from an old paper clip to the first front wrap and the first two pages, and approximately the first dozen or so pages were bumped on the bottom creating an approximate one-inch crease; else the interior is in near fine condition. ***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply, please contact seller for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Please contact us with any questions you may have, we are here to help. Bookseller Inventory # 14042320
