About the Book

We're sorry; this specific copy is no longer available. Here are our closest matches for Westland 50 by Taylor, John W. R. And Allward, Maurice F..

Description:

216 pages. With over 100 photographs and nearly 50 three-view drawings. The complete history of the aircraft company that gave us, among other things, the hovercraft and the largest production of helicopters in Europe. The book is bound in sturdy blue cloth-covered boards with clean, bright stamped silver foil lettering on the spine, with pages of coated, glossy paper. Neither book or dustjacket have any real flaws of note, just extremely brief, very occasional and faint signs of prior handling or shelf use. The book is exceptionally clean, it stands perfectly straight, and it is extremely firm and tight in its binding, with no pages loose, missing, folded or torn. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are unbumped. The pages are very faintly age-toned, but all are clean, clear, and unsmudged, and all text is bright, sharp and very legible. The previous owner penciled widely scattered, occasional, very faint, small numbers in the margins which are not obtrusive and which could be easily erased. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting of any kind in the text of the book. NO bookplates. NOT an ex-library copy. NO remainder marks. NOT a bookclub. The dustjacket is exceedingly clean, complete and intact, no tears, no chips, no pieces missing, NOT price-clipped, with a bit of age-toning at the edges and some minor edgewear at the top of the spine. Book Description London: Ian Allan, (1965). First Edition., 1965. Signed and Inscribed by the Author. Octavo, blue cloth (hardcover), gilt letters, 216 pp. Very Good, with edgewear and former-owner bookplate; in a Fine dust jacket. From dust jacket: One day in April 1915, Ernest and Percival Petter were asked by the Admiralty to help in building seaplanes for the national war effort. Work began in a new but small workshop outside Yeovil, and the first machine was completed by Christmas. They could little have thought then, that in the next fifty years the company would grow from that single workshop into one of the three major aircraft manufacturing groups in Britain; the largest helicopter producing organisation in Europe; the pioneer of an entirely new and revolutionary form of transportation, the hovercraft; and the sponsor of the launch vehicle for Britain's modest but valuable space programme. In this volume, handsomely illustrated with well over a hundred photographs and nearly fifty general arrangement drawings, the course of Westland's history is unfolded in authentic and absorbing fashion.
