Synopsis: An experiential book in which the reader is invited into the minds and hearts of a family devastated by the death of their youngest member. Through the voices of the child's parents and siblings, this book explores the many feelings and thoughts experienced following this tragedy. The feelings of shock, anger, rage, sadness, fear, terror, denial, yearning, guilt and loneliness are palpable throughout, showing how the family coped, and what helped them to come to terms with their loss. When a Child Dies ultimately uncovers a family slowly emerging from darkness and chaos to reach some kind of acceptance, and to make the decision to live rather than to merely exist. ""[A] slim book rich with insight and hope."" - Catholic Library World

From the Author: I hope that the story in this book, painful as it is, helps those who are suffering loss and making their journey through bereavement. The death of their brother and child was devastating to my family. We carried this pain for many years, but we choose to live and find happiness again as best we could. We are a close family, constantly in contact, and we love our grandchildren, who are all highly creative and beloved. Despite the deepest pain we can choose to live. We carry out pain as well as our joys, and so we give courage to others who feel that they will never experience happiness again. Humans can choose to be happy. Jim O'Shea

Book Description Veritas Publications, 2008. Paperback. Book Condition: BRAND NEW. When a Child Dies is an experiential book in which the reader is invited into the minds and hearts of a family devastated by the death of their youngest member. From the Author: This book will be of great help to siblings as well as to parents of bereaved children. by children I incluse adult children of any age, as well as children who die in the womb, infants, preteens and teenagers. This is one of the few books that gives a voice to siblings. all my surviving children wrote for this book, and contemporary diaries are used. Generally the focus is on the bereaved parents, and the pain and suffering of siblings often goes unnoticed. this book shows how deep and longlasting this suffering is. Nevertheless, it is also a book of hope and it shows how a family can eventually integrate such an awful loss and be happy. But there is always sadness. That is part of loving and losing a child. this book was written to help bereaved people, and the royalties will always go to the Children's Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin. this is one of the few books, if not the only one that looks at the long term impact of grief. It explores this impact at the time of the sudden death of this lovely boy, who was aged 13 and was killed in a road accident off his bike on a quiet country road, and it explores how this family is after 18 years. It is an honest book and a very sad one.But I hope that the tears shed by readers will be for their losses. Tears were shed for us when we needed them at a time when it was difficult to survive even one day, not to mention 18 years. My prayer is that many bereaved people will find their feeling validated in the book. 144 pages. 20.4 x 14 x 1.4 cm. Bookseller Inventory # 5094
