Few clubs lend themselves better to a magnificent collection of photographs than Wolverhampton Wanderers. As three-time League champions and four-time winners of the FA Cup, not to mention pioneers of European football, their place in the Daily Mirror’s extensive archive is secure. The majority of these superb photos are previously unpublished and are used to document the highs – and one spectacular 1980s low – of Molineux life. Billy Wright, Stan Cullis, Ron Flowers, Bill Slater, Bert Williams, Derek Dougan, John Richards, Steve Bull – the list of golden heroes is a long one.
David Instone has written eight previous books about Wolverhampton Wanderers, including Wolves In Pictures and Billy & Bully, and contributed to several others. Contrary to popular opinion, he is too young to have witnessed the club's 1950s glory years but has been a regular in the Molineux press box since 1986 and lives with his wife Liz half an hour's drive away in Shropshire.
