About this title

Synopsis:

Brief biographical sketches feature the young, up-and-coming stars of the world of country music

From Library Journal:

In his scaled-down country clone of Stuart Coupe and Glenn A. Baker's popular The New Rock 'n' Roll ( LJ 8/84), British music journalist Vaughan has chosen 76 groups and individuals that best represent the post-modern return to the country roots of honky-tonk, twang, and bluegrass. Vaughan is to be commended for his judicious selections of both established performers and up-and-comers, from commercially boffo giants like George Strait to fringe figures like Webb correction: LJ' s review of Dennis Kelsey- Wood's The Atlas of Cats of the World ( LJ 12/89) mentioned the book's poor cover con struction; the book's publisher, T.F.H. Pub lications, guarantees the binding for ten years and will replace any volumes where necessary. The book also comes with an op tional vinyl cover case. Wilder and the Beatnecks; the Texas contingent is especially well represented. The information for each entry is predominantly cursory and is accompanied by a slick publicity still or headshot. Vaughan does strive to provide a sense of the background, development, and influences for each artist and is attentive to their impact abroad. This book should amuse fans and introduce the country music neophyte to some exciting new names.
