First Edition. inscribed and signed by author on front free endpaper, 279 pages, notes, references, pale green cloth over boards with gilt titles, illustrated dustjacket in mylar cover. Dark brown jacket edgeworn and rubbed. An 18-year-old student at the University of Edinburgh was convicted on charges of blasphemy on the day before Christmas, A.D. 1696 and was executed two weeks later. After considerable research and examination of the records of the trial still extant in Edinburgh, it appeared to attorney Bogle that by putting the case into story form and including a few fictional characters, some light might be thrown on the more obdurate attributes of the human mind and heart, which are very much in evidence today.
