About this Item

(Subtitle continued) - "and after Morning and Evening prayer, and also before and after Sermons, and moreover in private houses, for their godly solace and comfort, laying apart all ungodly songs and Balades, which tend only to the nourishing of vice, and corrupting of youth. James. V - if any be afflicted let him pray, and if any be merie let him sing Psalmes." This book has no covers or spine. The first leaf is the title page, which has some edge chipping to the blank edges, and some light staining which extends through the first 7 or so leaves. Some other pages have chipping to the blank edges, with many pages having thumbed and slightly soiled edges. Printed in double columns, light red lines have been drawn in the margins and vertically down the center of the pages, and also red lines divide the sections in each psalm. Pagination: Title page, (blank), 100 numbered pages of Psalms, followed by additional pages, some titles being: Veni Creator, Venite exultemus, Te Deum laudamus, The song of the three Children, Benedictus, Nunc dimittis, Quicunque vult, The lamentation of a Sinner, The humble fate of a sinner, The Paternoster, The X Commandments, The Lords prayer, The Lamentation, A Thanksgiving (on page 113, of which the bottom half of the page is missing). The next side - page 114 has the headings of "A Prayer by R. W," and "An exhortation to praise G-d (my abbreviation)", with the bottom half of the page missing. There is one endpaper, but I don't know if there should be additional pages. The pages measure 8-1/4 inches by 12-1/2 inches (about 215mm by 325mm). Leaf 107/108 has been repaired along the margins. There are musical scores among the text. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 13360
