1/250 (?). Original tan cloth, with gold-stamped Reichseagle clutching a wreath with Swastika on front cover. Inscribed in black ink on free front endpaper by Ludwig Siebert to diplomat Hans von Mackensen: "Dem Botschafter des Deutschen Reiches in Rom, Herrn von Mackensen __?__ überreicht. München, am 27.5. 1941. Heil Hitler! Ludwig Siebert." At the time, Hans Georg von Mackensen (1883-1947) was the German ambassador in Rome. Mackensen came from a famous German military family, his father was General Fieldmarshall August von Mackensen and his brother, General Eberhard von Mackensen. Illustrated with 60 full-page annotated engraved photogravures of old Bavarian castles and the Markgräfliches Opernhaus (Opera) in Bayreuth. Interiors as well as exteriors of the following buildings are shown in the plates and are explained in the text: Burg Nürnberg / Plassenburg / Bamberg, Alte Hofhaltung / Bamberg, Neue Residenz / Würzburg, Festung Marienberg / Bayreuth, Markgräfliches Opernhaus / Landshut, Burg Trausnitz / Landshut, Herzogliche Stadtresidenz / Landshut, Stadtresidenz. The project to renovate these majestic buildings was started in 1934 by Bavarian Minister Ludwig Siebert. In his foreword he explains that the project had to be put on hold because of the war, declaring that after Germany's victory he would finish the work. Photos by Hans Eckstein, Photo.
