Pp. xxi, 417; frontispiece photogravure of erect grizzly bear; 84 photo-plates, 1 map. Publisher's original black ribbed cloth, lettered in orange on the spine and front cover, image of orange grizzly on the front cover, color pictorial dust jacket, lg 8vo. This is the stated first edition. A story of the Grizzly and Big Brown bears of Alaska, their habits, manners and characteristics, together with notes on Mountain Sheep and Caribou, collected by the author for the United States Biological Survey. The information presented in the volume was based on several expeditions into the unexplored wilderness of British Columbia and Alaska. The front free endpaper contains a long and warm inscription from the author to Milton P. Skinner, dated December 7, 1931. Skinner was a well-known naturalist and author of several books including 'A Guide to the Winter Birds of the Carolina Sandhills,' and 'Predatory and Fur-Bearing Animals of Yellowstone Park.' An interesting association copy. A bright and clean copy in fine condition in a very good dust jacket that shows slight edge-wear. Bookseller Inventory # 6296
