Fine copy in the dust jacket which has a small chip and short closed tear to the front dust jacket panel. The first full lenth biography of one of California's pioneer clergymen. His experiences include being an eighteen year old chaplain in the Black Hawk War, pioneer community life in Tennessee and Illinois where he was friend and pastor (Hermitage Church) to Andrew Jackson, and the dramatic vigilante period in frontier San Francisco. He was the first moderator from the Pacific Coast of the Presbyterian General Assembly and an author, lecturer, preacher, editor, educator, churchman and world traveller. His friends included Wm. T.
