About this Item

This genealogy collection consists of 8 pages removed from an 1800's Bible, and a number of later 1800's newspaper clippings. The genealogies mostly relate to the family of William T. Van Nostrand, born on Oct. 7, 1821 in Hempstead, Long Island, New York, and his wife Mehetabel Bradlee, who was born on June 28, 1823 in Haymarket Place, Boston. Mr. Van Nostrand was a successful brewer, with a brewery in Charlestown, Mass. The earliest dated entries are for Thomas Bradlee, born in Boston on Nov. 17, 1788, and for the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Van Nostrand, who died on May 23, 1880 at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 23 days. William and Mehetabel's 7 children are recorded with all their birth dates and 4 death dates: Ellen, Sarah Elizabeth, William Gifford, George Stillwell, Alonzo Gifford, William Henry, and Frank Bradlee, who were born between 1847 and 1867. William, George, and William Henry passed away while children. 3 children of the next generation have their births recorded, being the children of Alonzo and Frank; William Theodore, Blanch, and Margaret, who were born between 1886 and 1891. 5 marriages of William and Mehetabel's children are recorded ( Alonzo and Frank each of whom married twice); Ellen to Joaquin Souther, Sarah Elizabeth to John Drew Richardson, Alonzo to Annie Hall Smith, and then to Sadie Gertrude Hogue; Frank to Blanche Estelle Howard, and then to Christine Newhall (this second mariage only found on a newspaper clipping). There are nine newspaper clippings enclosed that obviously relate to the family: The death of Rachel Bradlee, wife of Thomas Bradlee, died in 1868 aged 65; the death of Thomas Bradlee in 1878, aged 89; the death of Annie van Nostrand at 22 years of age, wife of Alonzo; the death of Sarah Elizabeth (Van Nostrand) Richardson in 1878 at 31 years of age; the death of Grace T. Richardson in 1891, daughter of Sarah Elizabeth; the death of Blanche Estelle (Howard) Van Nostrand in 1891; the marriage of Frank to Christine Newhall; The marriage of Blanche E. Howard to Frank in 1890; and the marriage of Clarence Van Souther to Gertrude H. Turner. Another related family record consists of a single sheet with birth entries, and some marriage and death entries on both sides, starting with Goss and Maron families. Jonathan Goss 1771, Patti D. Goss 1777, Caleb Maron 1770, and Sarah Maron 1785. William D. Goss 1801, and Theodate Goss (Maron) 1804. Elizabeth A. Goss 1824, Sarah A. Goss 1828, Francina W. Goss 1832, George Goss 1839. Charles Sanborn 1845, George F. Sanborn 1847. Charles Turner 1848 married Elise C. A. Hagdorn in 1873. Gertrude Hagdorn Turner 1874, Charles Mallord Turner 1877. The last 2 entries are the most recent records, being Elise Souther in 1895 and Getrude Frances Souther in 1896. 5 of the newspaper clippings are just 2 to 5 lines, but 4 of the clippings are quite lengthy with some containing the names of many family members who attended. There are some additional newspaper clippings, but I don't see an obvious family connection. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Oblong. Bookseller Inventory # 15280
