About this title

Chile has been producing excellent wines for five centuries, but it wasn’t until the 1980s that they became widely available around the world. In the first book to focus exclusively on Chilean wines, award-winning writer Peter Richards outlines the fascinating history of Chile’s wine industry and explores its wide range of wine styles and wine-making techniques. With the help of ten detailed maps, he takes the reader on a tour of the country’s diverse terrains and major wine-making areas—including Maipo, Casablanca, Cachapoal, Colchagua, Maule and Elqui—and provides an extended listing of leading producers and their best wines.

About the Author:

Peter Richards began his love affair with wine as a journalist in Chile, spending six months touring 100 or so wineries, before returning to the UK and winning Webster's Young Wine Writer Award in 2001 - for an article on Chile. His first book, Wineries with Style (Mitchell Beazley), won the Gourmand Award for Best Wine Tourism/Atlas in 2004. A regular visitor to South America, Richards' expertise on Chile is much in demand, his writing features regularly in newspapers and wine magazines including Decanter, and his website,, serves as a lively introduction to the world of wine.
