About this Item

Collectible **Inscribed by Author on title page "To Beth Barney Wesbrook, a life-long friend and a very dear one, from Elizabeth Page. East Barnard, Vt., Sept. 1-3, 1951." Inscribed about 20 years after publication. Book is in very good condition, some minor corner wearand softening at head and tail of spine, the black titles on ocher colored clothe boars are crisp and sharp, the binding titles are also in sharp condition and binding is square. Inside the text and pages are in excellent condition but the front hinge in beginning to crack and some foxing at the inside of the next to last page and is also starting; despite this the binding is firm and square. Beautiful maps are printed on the front and rear end papers. Some elegant drawings by Paul Brown are found at the chapter headings and opposite the title page. A small and neat signature of a former owner is on the back of half-title page. The story of a man called Kansas Gilbert is elegantly retold here after hearing it first hand in the early dusk and evening of a Wintry day in Wyoming and complete with subsequent interviews with this memorable individual. The incredible story of the Edmonton Trail to the Klondike in 1897 - 1898 had never been written about, although it had been traversed by thousands of men. This book has been well researched and set to print by the author. What it felt like to be in the Gold Rush. There is a colophon of Farrar & Rinehart on the lower part of the title page.
