About this Item

Small 4to. Stiff grey wrappers. (13pp). Near fine. Tight, near pristine reprint of this speech from the July 1946 issue of the noted "Filson Club History Quarterly," reprinted because "It is such a careful and accurate analysis of the influence of Mrs. Lincoln on the development and accomplishment of her husband that it is important that it be published in permanent form." First separate printing. Quite uncommon -- plus this copy bears a fine autograph addition: Tipped to inside front wrapper is an appropriate Mary Todd Lincoln content Typed Note Signed from Warren, 1p, 8½" X 11", Fort Wayne, IN, 22 June 1948. Addressed to Arnold Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln scholar). Near fine. Two original mailing folds. On pictorial letterhead of "The Lincoln National Life Foundation," which cites Warren as director, he tells this budding Lincolnist "We very often have duplicate copies of lithographs or engravings of Mary Todd which we sell. If you could indicate just what you might wish to have, we would be on the look out for the item for you." Signed large and bold in full in black ink. Bookseller Inventory # 41198
