About this Item

A substantial volume bound in roughly woven reddish-gray cloth blindstamped with the title and author on the front boards and the spine. Very striking endpapers drawn by Maxwell, depicting 7 scenes from the novel. Very clean and tight, printed on quality stock and apparently unread. In a striking dustjacket with Maxwell's fleshy drawing of the seductive Rosita d'Ur. With the original price of $2.50 at the top of the inside front flap. Light chipping and rubbing to the top and bottom of the dustjacket spine ends. With a small V-shaped chip at the very top of the front panel just nicking the "n" in "One." Also with a thumbnail-sized loose piece in place at the bottom left-hand corner of the front panel. Light soiling to the rear panel which hearalds, "One Woman as brilliant, as sensational, as finely wrought as Thirteen Men: but more mature, more serious, a bigger novel." "Beginning with Thirteen Men, Tiffany Thayer's work has all been exciting, provocative, sensational. One Woman is sensational, but the story is told with more restraint, and with a more mature point of view than any of Thayer's earlier novels. This is his most serious book so far, and it will penetrate beyond his habitual readers to a much larger audience than he has ever before reached." (Dustjacket copy.) Thayer's novel was the basis for the 1949 film noir, Chicago Deadline, directed by Lewis Allen, starring Alan Ladd and Donna Reed. Warren Duff wrote the screenplay. First Edition with 1933 on the title and copyright pages. No subsequent printings listed. Bookseller Inventory # 18
