I thought, Oh, my God, it was not Japanese men who were responsible for all that tragedy. It was we Japanese women who lost us the war against American women! How free and self-determined American women are! In order to prevent another war, we must learn from American women. I then became very serious about knowing more about American women. During nearly fifty years of American life, I have met and developed deep friendships with many American women. I have learned how their spirit of independence and equality plays a profound role in their lives as individuals, wives and mothers and therefore impacts on the American culture and society. This learning was the positive foundation for me to dedicate my lifes work to peace between these two countries. Thank you to the American women who gave me this inspiration. Synopsis: Until I married an American man and came to America, I used to resent my own Japanese men, thinking, "How could they start World War II against America in that most foolish of ways and then be defeated in the most miserable way which brought such suffering to us?" However, after living in America for a while, my thinking began to change. I thought, "Oh, my God, it was not Japanese men who were responsible for all that tragedy. It was we Japanese women who lost us the war against American women! How free and self-determined American women are! In order to prevent another war, we must learn from American women." I then became very serious about knowing more about American women. During nearly fifty years of American life, I have met and developed deep friendships with many American women. I have learned how their spirit of independence and equality plays a profound role in their lives as individuals, wives and mothers and therefore impacts on the American culture and society. This learning was the positive foundation for me to dedicate my life's work to peace between these two countries. Thank you to the American women who gave me this inspiration. About the Author: (Photo of Author on left side) (the following paragraph on the rt side) Yaeko Steidel was born in Japan in 1923. She lived through World War II from age 18 to 22. In 1963, Yaeko married an American, Jack Steidel, and moved to Portland, Oregon where they lived together for the following 50 years. Her search for peace continued in America through her academic work at Portland State University. She entered into the Ph.D. program specifically to explore the root causes of human aggression and war, and wrote "Women and War" as her dissertation proposal. Yaeko personally has found peace and beauty through her artwork, and has produced more than 1,000 paintings and drawings of flowers and human forms. She shared her love of art with developmentally-challenged young adults for over 40 years and wrote of her experiences in a book, David's Tree, which was published in Japan. Yaeko has also found inner peace through writing both Haiku and Waka, two forms of Japanese poetry. Meditation has also been an important part of her life and she has shared the practice throughout the years as a community service. When her husband passed away in 2007, Yaeko moved to Virginia to be with her daughter. Now, at the age of 90, she takes great joy in sharing the healing art of Reiki with others and is currently working on a book about her experiences during the war in Japan. www.YaekoSteidel.com

Book Description Simon & Schuster UK, 2016. Taschenbuch. Condition: Gebraucht. Gebraucht - Sehr gut leichte Lagerspuren - In1973, Sue Lloyd Roberts joined ITN as a news trainee and went on to be the UK's first female video-journalist to report alone from the bleak outposts of the Soviet Union, China and Iran. During her 30-year-long career she travelled the world and witnessed the worst atrocities inflicted on women. But in observing first-hand the war on the female race she also documented their incredible determination to fight back. The War on Women brings to life the inconceivable and dangerous life Sue led, it tells the story of Mary Merritt who was imprisoned in a baby laundry in Dublin, and of Monica, who was trafficked and forced into the sex trade in Bosnia. She gives voice to Maimouna, the woman responsible for taking over her mother's role as the village female circumciser in The Gambia and provides a platform for the 11-year-old Manemma, who was married off in Jaipur at the age of six. From the gender pay gap in Britain to forced marriage in Kashmir and from rape as a weapon of war to honour killings, Sue has examined humankind's history and takes us on a journey to analyse the state of women's lives today. Most importantly she acts as a mouthpiece for the brave ones; the ones who challenge wrongdoing; the ones who show courage no matter how afraid they are; the ones who are combatting violence across the globe; the ones who are fighting back. Sue sadly died in 2015, shortly after writing this book, today she is widely recognised as one of the most acclaimed television journalists of her generation. This book is the small tribute to the full and incredible life she lived and through it these women's voices are still being heard. 308 pp. Englisch. Seller Inventory # INF1000969845
