About this Item

First edition thus, uncorrected proof copy. Paperback original. Original printed and illustrated grey wrappers, in the dustjacket for the trade hardcover edition, stamped "proof only". Page edges faintly foxed, o/w very good in a good dustjacket (a half inch taller than the book) with some rubbing, closed tears and some almost imperceptible remnants of childish scribbles. In the Children's Illustrated Classics series, so well done by these publishers. Illustrated with 4 colour plates and many line drawings in the text by Val Biro. A highly unusual copy of a children's classic, mainly because this series, being reprints of great books, had no need of proof copies (booksellers and reviewers knew what they were getting, and this title is #68 in the series).
