About this Item

One of 100 copies. A woodcut in four colors cut by W. A. Dwiggins in 1921 and printed for the first time by Dorothy Abbe in 1952 from the original blocks. The lovely woodcut, in blue, yellow, orange, and black, illustrates Stravinsky's ballet Petrouchka, which tells the story of a Russian puppet that longs to be human. In Dwiggins's illustration, the puppet sits in front of a wall covered in blue and yellow jacquard wallpaper holding a book and looking wistful. Originally mounted on a single sheet folded to make four pages, on the inside of which was printed the musical theme from Stravinsky's ballet. The woodcut is now matted separately. The print measures 9 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. Bookseller Inventory # 24205
