About this Item

Stated first edition/first printing. 91 pp. with beautiful color illustrations throughout. An imaginative account of what happens when the lives of new and old fairy tale characters dramatically and humorously come together. The volume came into being after Sondheim and Lapine won three Tony awards, five Drama Desk awards and the New York Drama Critics Circle award for Best Musical of 1988. Also included in the volume is a letter (laid in) by Stephen Sondheim responding to a concern of the owner of this volume which is dated June 12, 1989, and states: ".I appreciate your concern, but I don't know how to reply. Art, both commercial and non commercial, is a living organism that changes, develops, dies and is renewed constantly. All the artist can do is express himself, and all the audience can do is encourage whatever art it chooses. Yours sinverely, Stephen Sondheim.". Very scarce, especially with letter. Minor wear and tear along edges of DJ. Bookseller Inventory # 36465
