Title page continues "with Descriptions by the Countess Albrizzi and A Biographical Memoir by Count Cicognara. Vol. I has the contents for both volumes I and II, but Vol. III has its own contents pages and a "Supplementary Notice to the Biographical Memoir of Antonio Canova." None of the 3 volumes are paginated; the table of contents listings are by year, so I would assume the outline engravings by Moses appear in this order in the text. Vol I engravings are of Canova's statues and groups, Vol. II has busts, monuments and bas reliefs; Vol. III has statues and groups, busts, monuments and bas reliefs (different ones). Vol. I frontispiece is a steel engraving of a Canova portrait by F. X. Fabre, (engraving by W. H. Worthington) with (printed) Canova signature. Vol. II frontispiece is a steel engraving of Canova's face cast "taken immediately after death by Luigi Azimonti," engraving by Henry Moses. (Vol. III does not have a frontispiece engraving). A short history of each work by Canova precedes its outline engraving in the text. All three volumes are maroon cloth (with morroco leather texture), quarterbound in leather of a darker maroon; gilt-stamped titles on the spine, light yellow endpapers. The bindings are good on all three, but the outside hinges are rubbed through to the boards and have exposed threads. Covers definitely show some wear and fading, and a few pages in the text are pulled loose from the threads, but nothing is missing and the engravings are clean and virtually free from foxing. There are some detectable pencil mark erasures on the endpapers, but no other marks that I could find. This is a nice set of books despite the wear to the covers (mostly at the spines/hinges); a reprint of the original 1824 2-volume set published by Septimus Prowett with the addition of an 11 page supplement to the "Biographical Memoir," a 39 page essay by Antonio Canova entitled "Thoughts on the Arts" and many more of the Henry Moses outline engravings of Canova's works. ***VERY HEAVY 3 VOL.
