Podeschi, for this edition, reports that "a few of the works derive from Blanchard and Lea s editions of the individual titles, most of the long novels were reset by Peterson". The publisher continues to claim that he had paid Charles Dickens for use of the proof sheets to produce his original publications. Benson J. Lossing (1813 91) and William Barritt (1822 ?) were wood engravers in New York, 1847 69. Lossing was very productive with his works on American history and biography. Front hinge starting interna lly. Slight wear at hinges and corners. Pages of Little Dorrit slightly tanned. Minimal foxing. Illustrations and text Very Good. See Podeschi D40 for "Peterson s Cheap Edition for the Millions". Groce and Wallace, p. 404, for Lossing and Barritt. Hamilton, 525 Green three quarters morocco on 4 bands.
