The edition of 1897-98, published during Meredith's lifetime, comprises 32 volumes. THIS IS NO. 101 OF AN EDITION OF 1,000 COPIES, WITH EACH VOLUME INITIALLED BY GEORGE MEREDITH'S SON, WILLIAM, WHO EDITED THE LAST FEW VOLUMES, ON THE COLOPHON. The titles are as follows: I & II The Ordeal of Richard Feverel. III & IV Evan Harrington. V & VI Sandra Belloni. VII & VIII Vittoria. IX & X Rhoda Fleming. XI & XII Harry Richmond. XIII & XIV Beauchamp's Career. XV & XVI The Egoist. XVII & XVIII Diana of the Crossways. XIX & XX One of Our Conquerors. XXI & XXII Lord Ormont and Hs Aminta. XXIII & XXIV The Amazing Marriage. XXV The Shaving of Shagpat. XXVI The Tragic Comedians. XXVII Farina, plus two other titles. XXIX, XXX, & XXXI Poems 1-3. XXXII Essays. This is the last of the signed edition of 1897-1898. Later volumes in the set, are as follows: XXXIII (1910) Poems Vol. 4. XXXIV Miscellaneous Prose (1911). XXXV Celt and Saxon (1911). XXXVI Bibliography and Various Readings (1911). In addition: two unnumbered volumes of Letters Collected and Edited by His Son (1912). And finally, a box, bound uniformly with the other volumes, containing Illustrations Prepared for the Memorial Edition of the Works of George Meredith, 1911. 60 Photogravures, and 4 Collotypes of Reproductions of Manuscripts. One collotype is missing, the satin ribbon ties are torn, and the spine of the box has a 1/2 inch tear at the foot. All volumes are bound in lilac silk backed in cream linen. Most of the spines are lightly toned, with a few darker areas. The boards show various degrees of sunning. There are a few lightly foxed areas to some endpapers, but on the whole this set is very good to fine, and makes a handsome appearance on the shelf. Extra postage will be required.
